Make changes to installation instructions #43

Per conversation in MAD session today, there are problems with installation instructions that need to be fixed:

Per @camillescott,

conda env is only for python packages
don't append the activate script for conda envs
for third party installations, modify ~/.bashrc like this: http://www.camillescott.org/dammit/installing.html
