This report is divided into two sections: hardware and software. Hardware refers to the DiceKey itself, whereas software refers to the DiceKeys app.

Hardware:

I was impressed by the items that came with the beta kit. Everything seemed to be well thought out in terms of design. The stitching on the bag might be the only weak point; it might fail under repeated stress. But for the relatively sedentary life this product is probably going to live, it probably won't be an issue.

The case itself holds up pretty well, even after tossing it 15-20 feet into the air. However, I did notice the lid flew off after it hit the ground at that distance. The case itself stayed together though.

On that topic, I have found a way to disassemble the case (at least mine in particular) fairly easily and repeatedly without significantly compromising structural integrity. As there are four latches (two on each side) that hold the case together, I found that I could take a pair of flathead tweezers (ESD-13, a flathead screwdriver will probably also work for this) and stick it in the middle of the seam of the two pieces. After pushing it in straight as far as I can go, I rotate the tweezers up so that I pull the side of the bottom part of the case out a bit. Once it's pulled out enough, it will pop up enough to disengage the latches on that side. Then rinse and repeat for the other side. I have done this several times now, and the only thing this has resulted in is the case getting a little dinged up from the tweezers. However, this damage is purely cosmetic and is greatly overshadowed by the other scratches and dings that I acquired during my durability test (which I performed after disassembling and reassembling the case).

The only weak point I could see on the case is the hinge joint, which allowed the top lid to fly off after hitting the ground from 15-20ft. However, it retained its functionality after disassembling the case and putting the lid back on.

Software:

This is where I can see the most improvements being made.

The biggest issue by far is camera detection. I use Firefox on PC, and it has issues with detecting as well as using/releasing cameras. In order for this issue to be resolved, I have to force stop Firefox and restart it (issue recent as of September 24th).

On mobile, I have a completely different issue. I used two different browsers, Chrome and Samsung Internet. Both had the same issue. When I tried to use the camera, it detected my various cameras fine. However, it just immediately took a picture at 1024x1024. The resulting image was blurry and I couldn't get it to work.

Once I got the cameras to work (on PC at least), the DiceKey detection was great and picked up all the dice accurately. There is one issue I did run into that caused the DiceKey detection to fail. The recognition program is not set up to account for a horizontally flipped image. This isn't a common issue (and seems to be specific to some webcams), but can be frustrating to deal with if you do have it. Simply adding a button to flip the camera feed would prevent this from being an issue.

I would also like a way to enter the DiceKeys manually in case I didn't have a webcam.

Aside from that, the website just needs some web design and UI tweaks to make it easier for the general public to use. The misaligned text boxes on the custom key generation page were a little annoying, but otherwise useable. The dropdown menu for key selection also needs some tweaking, but otherwise works fine.

+1 for a manual way to enter the dice configuration

also does using the tweezers / small screwdriver show evidence of tampering.. deformed plastic edges etc that would indicate someone has possibly opened the top to get at the dice

Adding #30 to track that feature request.

There is some small scuffing, but not something you might notice at first glance.

Also, your desk surface is really cool looking.
