These changes improve the performance of building in Visual Studio, including suppression of compile warnings. Also, task files for VS Code are proposed in new .vscode subdirectory if that is of interest.

Nice work! This builds in Visual Studio just fine. I will attempt Visual Studio Code build in the next day or so.
