Hi Dieguich

I am looking for example of ibeacon apps that are used in a eco-friendly way . How does this app works?

Hello seamug,

this app was developed to foster recycling habits within the university. The app works as follows:

  1. If a mobile phone with the app installed approaches a place (in the project a vending machine) where there is attached an iBeacon, the app pops a notification.
  2. If the user accepts the notification a the app goes to foreground to interact with the user.
  3. Once the interaction is finished, the app encourages the user to look for the closest recycling point (treasure hunting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_hunt_%28game%29 game like).
  4. Whenever the user approaches to the recycling point where there are some ibeacons attached, the app praises the eco-action.

I have written a research paper about that if you wish depth info.

I hope it helps to you!

Cheers,

Dieguich.

Hi Dieguich

Thank you for your reply. It certainly is an interesting use case for ibeacon and I would like to take it further and perhaps incorporate some form of gamification in terms of points and rewards Is this app working and does it need a backend cms to manage the beacon and content ?

Hello seamug,

thanks for your comments. I attach to you a paper I wrote describing the app content and intention. Regarding your question, the answer is not. All the logic remains in the App itself. No internet connection is needed to run the App. The only thing you should change is the iBeacon ID you are expected to interact with. In my case I used easibeacons http://www.easibeacon.com/ but if you use estimotes http://estimote.com/ or other suppliers the App will work the same (I hope :) )

Do not hesitate in asking me whatever info you need to run the app.

Kind regards,

Diego.
