Let's get this underway. See google docs and make this a repo.

Let's get some student help, maybe on the Fedora Commons or MediaGoblin federated servers or on streaming torrents.

need to do next round HCH too.

Here are the old 2do notes. delete as needed. HCH Council Preservation Grant - Greevey... Stacy Hoshino, HCH How to set up a GIANT media server. Petabyte scale… video server setups... community buy-in… inquire into bittorrent as viable platform -> hand out hard drives -> train “client” in install and use of bittorrent -> set up tracker - this is the public front-end of the system -> “weeding” policy to keep copyrighted material out of torrents Archival storage space (independent) ad-hoc distributed backups of sections... "crash plan" archive.org will back up "whatever" EVOLS server space is ridiculously expensive and annual. we need to do a server and dvd burning enterprise if this is going to work. looking at Avalon media server. It is based on Hydra (code here and see also the Yale description) and Fedora, which work together. Cloud stuff is on the roadmap but no date. The project is funded til 2017, Fedora 4 has federation capabilities, but just starting out and fedora 4 is not yet dated on the roadmap. Also, does not seem like there is inline query available, so this is basically a catalog. Here is a graphic that explains the Hydra Fedora workflow. Fedora is also used in the Islandora project which is a possible repo as well.
