Do you've a repo that I could use for testing? I tried to reproduce the error by running hugo server -w --theme=steam
with Hugo v.0.14 but everything worked fine.
Did you change something in the folder structure of the theme or in it's templates?
I currently don't have a repo with my site files, but they are very minimal. Did you try creating a new site, with a couple test posts?
I didn't change anything in the theme. I cloned it as per the instructions.

I've created for every theme a small testing environment with a small amount of post. You stated, that you followed the instructions in the docs.
Do you also use the default config file that was generated by Hugo? Or do you copied this config file (that contains some specific options for the Steam theme)?

Yes. And that was the problem. I followed the theme-specific instructions (i.e. copied the example config.toml) and things are working now. Thank you!
Great to hear that.
More info on this issue for those that don't use the example config. These errors are specifically caused by the lack of themeColor
in the config.toml
The following line in the errors shows a <nil>
where the value of themeColor
should be.
partials/themes/%!s(<nil>)-theme theme/partials/themes/%!s(<nil>)-theme
Guessing the default value is not being inherited without themeColor
being set in the config.toml
so <nil>
is tried instead.
If i can figure out how to fix this ill send a PR.
Hope this helps.
