Quarantine Feature Not Working (Tour and Game) #38

Hi fantastic developers!

I am so excited to use the tour and game with my students next week as we explore the power of vaccines and quarantine.

I noticed that the quarantine feature on the game and tour do not seem to be working (unless I'm doing it wrong). The number of quarantines available is set to zero and will not apply to the infected node.

I also tried the Herd Immunity tab and it is very zoomed in (my browser is not - I double checked :) - Is there a way to zoom out the sim/demo so that I can see the nodes, graph, and text at once?

I look forward to sharing this resource with my students and have them explore the importance of these public health tools!

Thank you for developing this software - this is the best resource I have found for quick and easy communication/visualization of how vaccines work to prevent community spread!

Thanks! BK

Can you first try activating the quarantine mode by selecting the button on the top-right? That should enable quarantine mode that can then be applied to the mode.

This occurs automatically in the game, so I'm hoping that is the hang-up here.

Let me know if this works!

Hi!

Thanks for responding! I have made a short video to show what I am seeing: https://youtu.be/j2yYuGA_oEs

I'm pretty sure I clicked on the quarantine button first - but please do let me know if there's something I'm doing wrong!

I also screen captured the zoom in issue I'm seeing on the Herd Immunity tab - you can see it starting at 0:50 in the video linked above.

I appreciate your help! ~BK

Ohhh weird! Thank you for the demonstration that is quite helpful.

I suspect that this is a result of jumping straight to quarantine, rather than stepping through. I'll see if I can give it a look.

I haven't built this development environment in years, but I'll see what I can do!

Thank you so much for your continued interest and use of a project from nearly a decade ago.

Thank you so much for helping out!

This site is a fantastic visual for kids and adults. Our community has been hit hard recently by COVID deaths and cases; there's a lot of mistrust of vaccines as well. Hopefully we can dispel some of the misinformation!

I got the same challenge with the quarantine feature when clicking through all the steps of the tour (that's how I originally came across the issue). I really appreciate your help troubleshooting! I'm building a lesson around Vax next week for my students!

I hope you are well and thank you for the work you are doing - this tool is valuable now more than ever!

That is heart-warming to hear!

This project evolved into a web application called MicrobeTracehttps://microbetrace.cdc.gov/MicrobeTrace/, that we're developing at CDC, which is used to respond to outbreaks of all kinds across the country.

There is a brief introduction that you might be able to walk through in a live way that you can find here: https://www.cdc.gov/amd/training/covid-19-gen-epi-toolkit.html

If you skip to module 3.2, you'll see "Getting Started with MicrobeTrace". It is a brief demonstration with sample data...along with a <20min YouTube videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LIsEtcjFao to guide and provide context. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LIsEtcjFao

This is more 'real-world training' for epidemiologists than students...but if you're already working with Vax...I imagine running a demonstration for a classroom might be an accessible bridge to the real world!

Good luck, and if you'd like to reach the MicrobeTrace team you can find us at @.*** and here on GitHub at https://github.com/cdcgov/microbetrace

Thank you for these resources and congrats on microtrace! So neat that you're working with the CDC now!

And my coworker figured out the issue! I was clicking on infected node instead of the people around them. The quarantine feature is working just fine!

The herd immunity part is still oddly zoomed in though - any ideas how I can fix the display?

Thanks again to this team, my coworkers are stoked and I think the kids are going to both learn from and love it!
