iOS 4 multitask

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Used GV Voice to initiate with Siphon running in background with iOS 4
2. Siphon does not support iOS 4 background... yet?
3. using magicjack VoIP on Siphon

Good luck Samuel making your app working in the background. IOS4 Background app 
wakeup supports only TCP calls, they do not have any UDP support which makes it 
unusable for SIP VOIP without push notifications.

If you are right, my app supports multitask ;-)

Yes.  That is true.  Your app can be built to support the multitasking but none 
of the SIP provider I know of supports TCP for incoming calls. Apple is so 
stupid to do this. I hope the new 4.1 would change that but it does not look 
like it so far.

Softphone by Acrobits supports backgrounding as well as TCP transport of SIP. 
It's supports a workaround for push notification of UDP calls, provided the SIP 
server you are using is publicly accessible.

I truly prefer the push notification method since it will work on most iPhone 
models, however does that mean you have to maintain a separate push server?

Will be the app able to sleep on background when using TCP as transport 
protocol? If yes, iOS kills apps itself, when it has low amount of free memory. 
Is it possible to implement functionality, which is able to relaunch Siphon 
when the app is killed or crashed?

Any updates on this issue?  Funny enough, I have an option called "keep awake" 
in my settings however when I exit the application (or switch to another app by 
double clicking the home button) the little phone icon at the top right corner 
disappears.  I've already tried doing an outbound call and it worked, however 
if I exit (or switch apps) the incoming call is never pushed to my phone since 
I get a line which hangs up right away.

I've tried with switcher plus. It does not forces multitasking, just provides 
faster switching, including from lock screen.

Question... Asterisk PBX can work with TCP too, can siphon to be forced to use 
TCP? I like siphon and do not want to keep open fring, nimbuzz or bria to get 
incoming call :)

I released an alpha version of Siphon.
You have to add a new source in cydia :
  http://svsip.free.fr/repository/cydia

If you enable background support, you have to quit and kill app, and restart.
Don't forget iOS support background application with TCP connection only. Also 
you SIP provider have to accept TCP connection to enable this feature.

Great work!

I've installed the update onto a 3GS w/ iOS 4.2.1, no problems. I've picked up 
a few calls over 3G with 100% success.

I did have MobileNotifier installed which showed me the notification but didn't 
allow me to pick up the call. Choosing the option of "Open"ing in MobileNotifer 
on incoming call (in SpringBoard or the lock screen) would just open Siphon, 
but wouldn't indicate that the phone was ringing, and didn't pick up the call. 
I had to turn MobileNotifier off (uninstall).

Probably a really stupid question, but couldn't a daemon be implemented almost 
like Apple's CommCenter? Use the daemon like a client that connects, the actual 
interface as a client that connects to the daemons, then the daemon and 
interface stream audio back and forth? While the daemon still has the ability 
to open an accept and decline screen like it did in the original 3.x.x 
releases? Sorry if this question is a waste of time :)

@comment 35, Siphon uses iOS 4.0/4.1 API, so it's clear it doesn't work on iOS 
3.1.3 (could you open a new issue)
@comment 36, Siphon uses Apple Local Notification, if you choose "answer" when 
there is an incoming call, Siphon starts and answers automatically. However if 
you don't answer, currently the call is not listed in history (could you open a 
new issue)

485? And give the kind of device, the iOS version...
