Closes #66. There are a lot of changes here which need review.

There are now two layers of wrappers:

Wraps the low-level interface inside a torch.autograd.Function that also can compute gradients.
Wraps that inside the original interface.

I've found a couple of bugs in this branch that I will try to work on today.
