Its' possible you may have v46 flashed to your controller card. I found that
the new USB driver from FTDI is not compatible with some v46 flashed cards on
some Windows XP systems. Delete the FTDI Driver version 2.08.28 on your
computer. Load previous version 2.08.24 from
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm website on to your computer. They have
an executable file if you need. Now open Arduino, with the v48.ino and flash
the new firmware to you card. You are now ready to program with the latest v48
GUI.

I'm using FTDI Driver 2.08.24.0. FTDI Driver 2.08.28.0 does not work for
Arduino or GUI on my XP laptop. Had v48 loaded and and able to change PID
parameters, etc. and saved to board. Downloaded and loaded v49 to board. Now
when I try and change any parameters PID, max PWM, RC-Min, RC- Max for both
Pitch and Roll and click save values from gui into board parameters are not
saved to board, however I do sometimes get the ERROR: error flushing
"filef77a58": permission denied when triying to save GUI setting to board.

To anyone who has issues with connecting to the board, the FTDI driver version
that you should use is 2.8.14.0. You can find it in the windows update archive:

I have just successfully changed the Arduino code and flashed the card...I have
also managed to download the GUI and made that work with the card...founf -46
to be Fully functional whereas some components of v -49 failed to
work....Gimbal is working fine...with some exceptions that the motors do not
hold DURING flight./....works fine on ground...have tied shock mounting the
gnbal ut it just constantly drives the tilt .... Question...DOES the BOARD have
part of the IMU on it and DOES the bard have to be Horizontal and in Line with
the gimbal...
