Support koaLA #21

Closed Siedlerchr closed 11 years ago

It would be nice, if you could add koaLA support to i-upb, especially courses group support, so that I can see when and where the meetings for my group of the course is.

The reason is, that there are more and more profs, who use koala to manage the learning groups for their courses.

Awesome idea! We'll check whether we can get this info without a need to login to koala and get back to you soon!

dirkschumacher commented 11 years ago

Interesting idea. We also thought about hooking the system to koaLA. Do we have a reliable API - I assume we don't:)

Siedlerchr commented 11 years ago

You could contact the people who developed koaLA: https://koala.uni-paderborn.de/imprint/

Entwicklung, Fortschreibung der Funktionalität, Updates:

Universität Paderborn Arbeitsgruppe Informatik und Gesellschaft Prof. Dr. Reinhard Keil Tel.: 05251 / 60-6412 (Sekr.)

@Siedlerchr, we will contact Dr. Keil and the IMT during the next week or the week after to ask about some data APIs or access without login. Currently all information is login-protected and thus not easily available for a public site like iUPB. We will get back to you as soon we know more, or do you wanna help us? Maybe contacting/negotiating or even implementing an API (don't know if you program some object-oriented-language, like Ruby, Javascript or Java...)?

In the meantime we will release a feature where users can add own timetable entries, so hopefully an interims-solution will be available sooner: https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/37336215

Thanks, again, for submitting this idea. It also will be tracked by us internally here (fyi): https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/38008061

@MichaelWhi Thanks for the information. I could help you in my freetime or at weekends. I've been programming C# for about 3 years and sometimes a bit in java. My javascript knowledge is only rudimentair ;) and I've never tried ruby.... But I've no problem learning a new language. So, just contact me via github/mail/g+ and tell me what to do ;)

In the meantime we will release a feature where users can add own timetable entries.... I'm looking forward for this kind of functionality.

Hi @Siedlerchr, just wanted to catch up wit this issue: we've recently won 1st prize at the uni app contest and with that as a reference, we very soon will contact the koala team and ask for integration possibilities. c# and java is perfectly fine, but first, we have to wait for what the koala team can offer us (or not), anyways, and then see what we have to code.

@dirkschumacher

Thanks alot for the information and congrats for winning the 1st prize!

update, @dirkschumacher and @Siedlerchr: On monday I will met up with someone from the koala/eLEarning-Team to talk about what data koala has and whether it could make sense (or is allowed) to export some data via an API or so. so stay tuned ;)

Siedlerchr commented 11 years ago

Hey, thanks a lot for the infos.

The days ago I was thinking about the possibility to remind me when some new files in koala are uploaded to the courses (for example results of a test). It would be nice, if you can ask the koala team about this option.

Thanks in advance, Siedlerchr

Hi! So, today I had the meeting.

MichaelWhi commented 11 years ago

sorry that we still didn't ship the custom add for events yet. we will release it with the new courses for the next semester. if you are curious, feel free to play with it at www.i-upb.de/de/timetable/new :-) we will close the story at https://www.pivotaltracker.com/story/show/37336215 if we improved and linked it

MichaelWhi commented 11 years ago

@siedlerchr have you tried out the feature for custom events? if yes: do you think it's ready to go live (after polishing the text labels)?
