Remove wistia from trackers list #360

Closed prabushitha closed 3 weeks ago

prabushitha commented 3 weeks ago

Domain(s) to review. Separate them by comma.

wistia.com

Rationale for removing, adding, or recategorizing.

Block only the applicable subdomains without blocking the entire list of subdomains breaks product features

Where domain(s) observed. Separate them by comma.

fast.wistia.com,embed-cloudfront.wistia.com

Additional notes

Wistia is a service which provides video embed service to other businesses. fast.wistia.com & embed-cloudfront.wistia.com is being used while embedding videos and seems it's being blocked. Below should be removed from trackers.

Here's the firefox error (firefox relies on disconnect me list of trackers to block these websites)

The resource at “https://fast.wistia.com/assets/external/E-v1.js” was blocked because content blocking is enabled.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our technical and policy review determined that wistia.com meets our definition of Tracking (See https://disconnect.me/trackerprotection), and that this domain is properly classified.   Our technical review revealed Request URLs from wistia.com’s subdomains are present on thousands of 3P sites. We are seeing what appear to be tracking requests (like originating 3P domain, “blank.gif”, “googleAnalytics”, and “metrics”) from subdomains including but not limited to the following:

In regard to the specific video breakage, we balance privacy and usability concerns. It’s possible that Wistia could use separate domains for tracking and serving videos.
