High CPU usage on Safari #270

Reported by user:

"Disconnect does what it says, except the part about speeding up my browsing. Disconnect seems to slowly decrease Safari’s performance until just changing tabs takes 1-2 seconds. I can watch it on Activity Monitor and the CPU % for Safari jumps to 100% while switching tabs. When I turn off Disconnect Safari is much faster. And then turning I keep the good performance, but it slowly degrades over time.

Mac OSX 10.9.1 and Safari 7.0.1.

It’s definitely a cumulative effect. It got so slow that 5 minutes ago I turned Disconnect off (with the prefs panel) and everything speeded up. I turned it back on, and every thing is still good, but I believe it will be slowing down over the next couple of days."

Other extensions: Ad Block is installed but turned off (I think Disconnect replaces it) Sessions Evernote Web clipper

Another report of this issue:

"While researching a strange console message an hour ago, I discovered that Disconnect appears to be responsible for what has been causing me so much aggravation lately as I've been battling tremendous Safari slowdowns and I was about to transfer all my open tabs to Firefox and begin using it exclusively again.

I started disabling extensions and discovered that Disconnect ws causing Safari to use excessive CPU. While Disconnect is disabled Safari hovers around 2-5%, but when I enable Disconnect Safari jumps to around 65-70% within 20 seconds and Safari Web Content jumps from .02% to 55-75%!

I had my MBP fans set to 5200RPM and the temp. was still hot at around 176 degrees.

Safari is now much more responsive with Disconnect disabled!"

I'm having the same issue. Safari is unbelievably slow and unresponsive with the Disconnect extension turned on.

I've just gotten used to disabling & re-enabling disconnect every few days. If someone knows how to capture the type of data you'd need to see what's going on I'd be happy to help out with some guidance.
