Outdated Android Discord Clients causing API features to be unavailable #5890

Description

I hope this is the right place to provide this type of feedback. It's not directly an API bug, but it causes many problems when using Bot features.

There are many Android users out there, who are not so technically minded. They using that, what the phones provide them. For Huawei or Samsung users it's their own app store. Especially Samsung with their Galaxy Store.

Unfortunately, these app versions are no longer maintained, which certainly has reasons. E.g. the Samsung Store got Discord Version 101.11 image

What's the problem about that?

I think an example can show the possible damage:

All Fortnite Discord servers hosted a Discord Event back in October that includes a registration. This registration uses buttons. As millions of people participate, we got a significant amount of Android users. Those also include Samsung users that couldn't find any buttons, which resulted into long conversations on switching to the PlayStore version.

Today the issue still persists, especially with the new onboarding that's also not available and people getting confused.

It's not our job to migrate users....

What Discord should do about that

There are multiple options. The easiest one would be deleting outdated Discord listing from all stores.

A more advanced one would be providing an in-app notification with a help guide to update.

Steps to Reproduce

Be an unexperienced Android phone user and download Discord from a 3rd party store.

Expected Behavior

Discord won't be available or the app shows an warning to update to the latest version in play store.

Current Behavior

Users use unsecure outdated clients with missing features,

Hey, thanks for reporting. Wanted to follow-up that we're aware of the Discord app still being in the Samsung store and we're working on a solution.

Is this still an ongoing issue? I'm a bot developer and had a user come to my support channel today asking why they couldn't see interaction buttons on command responses. Upon asking them to update their app, they said they "did already update it to the latest version in the store". When I asked for the version they showed a screenshot of it being v101.11. I suspect they were using the Samsung store to update their app?
