Still having issue with "Error attempting to enable syncing" #14

Closed wschwa12 closed 6 years ago

wschwa12 commented 6 years ago

We're still having an issue with syncing in this plugin. We've gone through all of the potential issue that people were having before in application settings, admin privs, etc but are still getting the error message when trying to auto sync.

wschwa12 commented 6 years ago

Basically the error message reads: Error enabling syncing: There was internal server error while processing your request: 2017-10-21 12:17 pm

schtschenok commented 6 years ago

Same thing

OkazakiLeir commented 6 years ago

3.0.6 and the issue still persists. Are we going to have a "stable" version out there that doesn't have such important aspect of the plugin working properly, @ryanvalentin ?

ido1990 commented 6 years ago

Same here on 3.0.9

schtschenok commented 6 years ago

Same on 3.0.9

Same on 3.0.9 this is new

This is like the same issue as https://github.com/disqus/disqus-wordpress-plugin/issues/16 - do you have an https: site?

e-m-m-a commented 6 years ago

Yes

@ryanvalentin yes

schtschenok commented 6 years ago

Yep

OkazakiLeir commented 6 years ago

Is it some sort of redirection issue? I have seen certbot go haywire when I tried to set it up on a https website with 301 redirection and reverse proxy on nginx so I assume it must be a similar case.

But yeah, my website also uses https:

ryanvalentin commented 6 years ago

@OkazakiLeir It's unrelated afaict. We basically just need to upgrade the library we're using to make requests on the backend, so you won't need to do anything on your side.

ryanvalentin commented 6 years ago

Fixed on our side now, go ahead and try re-enabling syncing!

e-m-m-a commented 6 years ago

Not fixed for me, sorry but this is really not good. Support have ALL my login details, its still broken on HTTPS for me.

@e-m-m-a Try what I did. After updating to the last version I did the "reinstall" option and used the link it gives to register it again on Disqus website then I tried to do the sync and it worked.

e-m-m-a commented 6 years ago

That links fails for me in the disqus page and gives the error {"code":"rest_no_route","message":"No route was found matching the URL and request method","data":{"status":404}}

What's your like looks like? In the beginning mine was missing the token in the end, I had to deactivate and reactivate the plugin to get the full URL to paste.

e-m-m-a commented 6 years ago

Just tried, thanks but still the same. Link is https://www.xxx/wp-json/disqus/v1/settings be3475a11c76b245e872e0cb6f1665fc

Ok, so I'll leave it to the developers to figure out :)

Dev's? Its taking 24 hours to get a ticket response - and the latest was for an admin login I sent 5 days ago still in the discussion thread. Pre the first update all was fine, please help

dmarkic commented 6 years ago

We have http site and it also stopped working few days ago - any news regarding this issue?

dBiazioli commented 6 years ago

Same issue here.... Plugin v3.0.12, Wordpress v4.8.5, running https + nginx

nsorosac commented 6 years ago

@ryanvalentin You should reopen this issue because the problem is still there :-(

wordpress 4.9.4 + disqus plugin 3.0.12 + HTTPS through nginx and cloudflare (tried without cloudflare, same issue)

e-m-m-a commented 6 years ago

Syncing still not working in 3.15. What is the new secret key setting and how do I fill it, The documentation is out of date, the API page does now show this setting.

webamadou commented 6 years ago

This looks like a huge bug. I'm having the same issue. the automatique install shows : An error occurred trying to configure your site. Make sure the Disqus plugin is installed and activated, and that your site is publicly accessible. And when I try manual instalation i get this error from the consol : Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 (Forbidden) on /blog/wp-json/disqus/v1/settings the link to my blog is https://elmadeal.com/blog Can anybody help please?

LissieTilbrook commented 6 years ago

Ugh. This is never going to get fixed, is it?

You just lost a customer. HTTPS is the way to go. I'm telling my friend to uninstall Disqus on her WordPress site.

This is foolish on the Disqus devs.

andykillen commented 6 years ago

https://howardahmansonjr.com/wp-json/disqus/v1/sync/webhook gives a 404, is this a NginX issue or another thing that breaks because I'm part of the modern world and use HTTPS.

pawel-tomkiel commented 6 years ago

@andykillen - you're not part of modern world. Quoting Wikipedia:

Netscape Communications created HTTPS in 1994 for its Netscape Navigator web browser.

Same issue here on nginx+Let's encrypt - seems like a pretty standard setup for me.

@ryanvalentin - do you need additional info from me? I can help with debugging this - it's crucial for me to have comments synced.

pawel-tomkiel commented 6 years ago

@ryanvalentin - at least you should open one of all this HTTPS bugs so we would know where to leave comments and insights :)

jaryszek commented 6 years ago

Guys,

So when will you fix the issue?

My last issue is not working automatically comments synchronization....

Best, Luke

Bielousov commented 6 years ago

Same issue, Nginx + WP 4.9.8 Frankly the API works: https://www.bielousov.com/wp-json/disqus/v1/

But none if its endpoints do, e.g.: https://www.bielousov.com/wp-json/disqus/v1/sync/webhook/ , or https://www.bielousov.com/wp-json/disqus/v1/sync/status/

My nginx config looks as following:

        location / {
                # W3TotalCache: Use cached or actual file if they exists, otherwise pass request to WordPress
                try_files /wp-content/w3tc/pgcache/$cache_uri/_index.html $uri $uri/ /index.php?$is_args$args;
        }

        location ~ /wp-json/ {
                try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$is_args$args;
        }

Really I wish you never changed this, auto-sync just silently stopped working months ago.

@jaryszek oh, i tried using this plugin on 4 sites it duplicated my comments from 3K to 9K on one site and has refused to work on 3 other sites.

The worse part is support is very poor, how can i pay $10/m for horrible support like this

jaryszek commented 5 years ago

@Kingsley Felix with disqus support is also very bad - they do nothing with issues since more than one year!

Hmm wpdisquz is free ? only for addons you have to pay?

Sorry about that. after having similar error I searched for it and found a few discussions including this one. After I posted a comment here and got back to my website and saw that the sync had been done even with those errors. I tried again and after a while it started working. Not sure what was the issue but I didn't change anything to fix this. this all worked after a few minutes. So I deleted my comment from this thread. But now when it had already been seen and responded by @jaryszek, the original comment can be seen in quotes.

Thank you

gray-inweb commented 5 years ago

In my case, the error still remains. Manual sync works fine. Automatic synchronization returns - Verification request failed. How to fix it? (WP version - 4.9.9, Disqus plagin version - 3.0.16).

jaryszek commented 5 years ago

@Sergey Vinogradov because it was not fixed. Still the same issues.

I don't know why was this issue closed. Almost 2 years and no fix.

strophy commented 4 years ago

I was seeing the error described above and ended up here through Google, among many other people posting on multiple forums with the same problem. My config is:

Nginx is configured to 301 redirect http to https. Running a site check at https://www.ssllabs.com/ showed that my SSL chain was incomplete. Modern browsers simply fetch the missing certificate and keep working, marking the site as secure, but curl -i https://mysite.com was throwing the error curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate. I suspect Disqus uses curl internally, and therefore hit the same error.

I was able to resolve this by ensuring the intermediate certificates were included in the chain loaded by nginx like this: https://futurestud.io/tutorials/how-to-configure-nginx-ssl-certifcate-chain

After that, check your Disqus config again and try to enable auto syncing again. You should see the message Syncing established with Disqus servers and a timestamp.
