DP#152 Block - 3D/2D assets markeplace #152

Name: Block

Purpose: Community Driven Marketplace for Digital Assets

Description: Basically Turbosquid/CGTrader/CGtextures.com etc but decentralised. A marketplace for exchange and sale of digital assets for archviz, sfx, games and other industries. Ranging from modelled 3d objects, 2d textures, shaders for specific 3d packages, photoscanned content, to VR, 3d printing models etc. Evrything nicely organised and cathegorised and everyone will get fair share of what they deserve.

The biggest problem in this field is filtering quality content. Quality content will be ranked based on downloads/purchases/rating. It will be still possible to find low quality content after checking "search all grades" checkbox. This would also help in "requests" - something that is missing or doesnt have many representative items would be put on a request list so that potential content submitters will know what to focus on rather than spamming same models/textures that already exist.

There are several reasons I think this propsal is worth considering:

1) Centralised marketplaces are very expensive - for both the seller and buyer - Turbosquid takes aprox. 50% off you as a creator! It can be reduced over time but then you need to be either selling a lot or sign exclusivity with them.

2) It could help reduce piracy in this field which is a real problem atm.

3) CGI industry is booming currently, not only video games or movies industries, but also archviz, design, VR etc. DIY solutions like photoscanning is on the rise as well as 3d printing and many new schools are now offering CGI courses.

4) This could be also linked to many other districts like online learning, photo stocks, even building VR districts like Decentraland, could take advantage of this.

Let me know what you think!

Can I get a token address for this proposal please.

A huge problem is copywriting/watermarking 3d assets... any thoughts on this?

mathos83 commented 7 years ago

@imdying well that is true - I guess some of the mechanisms could be similar to what was proposed in the photomarket district along with strong community curation tools - basically users see an asset that is either stolen or duplicate - they flag such asset and after reaching certain amount of flags asset gets deleted. Obviously there would have to be another mechanism to ensure only trustworthy and verified users can curate with power to delete assets.

@mckmuze sorry I'm a bit new to this - what exactly do you mean by token address?

rongomaib commented 7 years ago

@mathos83 your eth address to recieve the 250DNT for submitting a proposal.

also have you thought about just creating a digital asset market place. why limit it to just 2d/3d. It could be for any digital file.

@mathos83 I do need an Ethereum address that is token compatible so you can receive your DNT. Sorry for the confusion. The deadline is today.

mathos83 commented 7 years ago

@Bradymck oh I see - it is fine - can we donate it to some fund or random address?

Hey @mathos83

I'm not sure if you're aware but we recently launched a new bounty to migrate your proposals to the actual District Registry: https://registry.district0x.io/

We're replacing the old voting app with the registry. Let me know if you need help but I would love to see you migrate this over so you can claim your DNT.

It does take a 10,000 DNT submit to submit your proposal but this gives you an extra 2000 you can stake in the registry beyond the deposit amount.

Hit me up on Telegram or Discord if you need help or have questions.

PS, please excuse the canned response. I am encouraging everyone here to start migrating so they can claim their 12000 DNT.
