DP #180 Repairit - A District platform For Repairing and Maintenance Works #180

Open Puvanb opened 7 years ago

Puvanb commented 7 years ago

Name: Repairit

Purpose

The Repairit district will offer a global platform for every repair and maintenance works from small to big to help re-shaping and re-develop the repair industry.

Description

Almost everyone owns at least one electronic gadget for personal use. Some owns one mobile phone to few mobile phone, laptop, desktop, electronic appliances, vehicles and equipment. Almost every home has some equipment. The Repairit can be involved with every existing industry today. From major factories (small, big machinery and equipment) to small shop owners (handy tools, small equipment) even to free lance individuals (service providers). The scope of work for repair is big and the potential of this market is huge.

The number of users for these industries especially electronic gadgets, appliances, big and small equipment and vehicles is increasing year after year. As new technology are being developed every now and then, the older technology is left behind with little to no expertise to help get things repaired. Repairit aims to solve this with bringing mechanics and engineers together of all background into a single platform creating new jobs, solution and hopefully an eco-friendly community.

Repairit will also contribute towards Ecology with the recycle concept. Most of the old devices, gadgets, appliances, equipment and vehicle can be recycled or parts usable in other manner. With a proper platform these recycled items can be sold as a second hand market. This contributes to new job creation and new revenue stream and at the same gives a platform to all local service providers a chance to compete and provide a better service to the community.

Market

The market for Repair works is huge. According to IBISWorld, this industry is worth of 19 billion only for Electronic and Computer repair works in US alone last year. The Repairit Platform can be applied to the following industries:

Use Cases

Fees

Repairit is a user friendly and customer service oriented concept that can aid and form a community. There will be no fees charged for standard service like search nearby service provider and to connect to its network.

However Repairit can also offer a premium service where a user can be provided with recommendation and tools like comparison or tender / bid tool that makes selection of vendor easier for higher quality purchases and professional usecase for businesses and factory operational purpose where it can aid some of the procurement function in any organisation.

Ranking

Each user will be able to comment on the service provider that helps to provide the future user of the service. Ranking should be based on the attributes like quality of service, response, time and cost. These should be the evaluation criteria for ranking.

Potential

Revenue

Repairit can generate its own income with few ways listed below. The fees then can be shared with all the District Token Holders.

  1. Advertisements by service providers on the platform.
  2. A minimal service listing fee for service providers renewable every quarter. (to reduce spams)
  3. Annual membership fee for suppliers or members with additional benefits or discount.

Note: I am also working on a separate proposal https://github.com/district0x/district-proposals/issues/156 which is under progress.

Do you see this as a services marketplace, or more like an open community similar to www.ifixit.com?

How do you see payment for services working, and how does the reputation and ranking system operate?

www.ifixit.com is a self fixing or "how can i fix this item?" with guides with sales of parts. Repairit is for those who cannot do perform their own repair works. For an example, a 50 year old man finds his laptop faulty. He does not know how to repair it and prefers sending it to a shop nearby to get the repair work done. Repairit will become a point of reference for services around his in x radius distance. He either calls for the service or gets to the place to get the work done. So this is more like a service market place. Another example, Jamie is transferred to New York from Texas. His car suddenly broke down and he is late to work. With Repairit as a point of reference, he finds nearby mechanic to get to his place to his car back to running condition.

Charging for payment for the service given is an issue here. That would be between a user and the service provider. The service provider is not working for Repairit but he uses Repairit to get new customers. The user uses Repairit as a point of reference for his/her needs. Therefore a service provider can be charged a minimal x amount fee on quarterly or annually basis for advertising his service or a standard fee for each service listing on quarterly or annually. There should be no fees for normal users and a premium fee for premium users with more additional features like comparison tools, suggestion and recommendation.

Reputation: The user should be able to give comment on each services provided with a service feedback rating which works as " How many star will you give for this service / (Maximum 5 Stars) * Number of feedbacks " formula that gives an average rating. More like Google Playstore rating format.

Ranking: I am actually against the ranking system due to one thing that is domination of a service by a single person or company. In my opinion ranking gives a not fair platform to all service providers. But i would suggest the search results should be prioritized based on distance to the location and then reputation of the service. This in my opinion seems more fair and gives an equal opportunity to all service providers.

Note: i will add some of this into the proposal.

So a blockchain based crypto repair service market for non-techies?

So the main use is to find nearby repair services and facilitate payments

Not just repair shops. it can also be any skilled individuals who is able to perform any repairing skills.

Google is a search engine for everything, more like jack of all aces. But what I want to build is a point of reference, specifically for that particular service. More like a template which can be applied to all other services if this successful. Google is more like a street with multiple buildings and Repairit is one building with everything in it. Accessible and utilized by anyone anywhere anytime.

"Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime" Sounds like a good tag.

Hey @Puvanb

I'm not sure if you're aware but we recently launched a new bounty to migrate your proposals to the actual District Registry: https://registry.district0x.io/

We're replacing the old voting app with the registry. Let me know if you need help but I would love to see you migrate this over so you can claim your DNT.

It does take a 10,000 DNT submit to submit your proposal but this gives you an extra 2000 you can stake in the registry beyond the deposit amount.

Hit me up on Telegram or Discord if you need help or have questions.

Telegram: https://t.me/district0x/75217 Discord: https://discord.gg/P9RQejv

PS, please excuse the canned response. I am encouraging everyone here to start migrating so they can claim their 12000 DNT.
