6 years ago I would like to add a little bit as I've been thinking of this district too, there is always someone who has to actually order this from the manufacturer. This person has to be compensated. Therefore I think there have to be 2 different types of Discounts:
- For profit As in; the Discount host will be able to set a fixed price for the good without actually giving that much information about his supply line. You'll be able to join the group purchase at that specific price + costs for shipping. The smart contracts within the district should pay out 75% of the total sum of money to the host before an order has been made. If over 50% of the buyers of the deal confirm that the goods have been received without problems the remaining amount of money gets paid out via the smart contract.
- Non profit The discount host will disclose all relevant information about the supply line. The participants will pay the amount necessary to cover all costs of the product + a set fee for compensation of the host. The initial amount will be available to the host in full and the compensation will be available after voting.
I believe in a system like this the host will always have to have the packages shipped to him directly. My vision is actually a little bit different. As most of these deals are very location specific. You would have to pay a lot of custom and shipping fees. Therefore I do think a district like this should have country specific sub-sites.
Let me know if I should work this out to a full district idea or if this could be added as part to this district proposal.

Discount0x is a proposed new district on the District0x network for purchasing products direct from manufacturers using cryptocurrencies.
Purpose: To Facilitate Discounts for Groups of Individuals
With platforms such as Alibaba making global manufacturing accessible to anyone with an internet connection, there is a possibility to use these platforms in order to leverage bulk discounts for individuals.
This district has basic functions of a marketplace, where individuals can submit items for bulk discounts, or businesses can offer sale of discounted products to a large number of people. This concept is an improved decentralized version of the non-blockhain equivalent Groupon.com. The main advantage of Discount0x is that it will offer discounts direct from manufacturers, without adding a new layer of middlemen. Possible token mechanics and smart contract development are discussed in the following section.
Description: Technical Mechanics
There is a platform where individuals looking to purchase products at a cheaper rate can collaborate with others in order to negotiate a group discount.
Use: Lets say a consumer is looking to purchase an electronic item. This electronic item is sold in the store for $40. The customer notices on an online manufacturing site, the price is only $8 but you must order 1000 of these items to get the lower bulk price. The customer would be able to propose this item to the network, where other users looking to purchase this item could stake their tokens (DNT) by transferring them to an item specific smart contract. After a certain time limit if there are insufficient funds to purchase the lot of items the funds will be returned to the corresponding senders. If the amount of capital staked exceeds the goal then the smart contract will execute which will automatically process the order, and ship it to the warehouse.
Shipping Everything mentioned above can be coded in smart contacts, technology far exceeds the minimum to make this project work. The only complexity would be shipping. Referring to the previous example, a shipping facility would have to be used in order to separate the 1000 items, repackage and ship them accordingly. This cost can be shared across users of the district in the form of usage fees. Even with shipping fees these discounted items would be significantly cheaper than any-other source.
Vision and Summary Discounts for simply purchasing more of something have always existed, and will always exist. Discount0x seeks to use blockchain technology to pass on the savings of buying something in bulk to individual items.
