Gaming District

The gaming district is a community of devs, modders, hackers, and gamers governing digital assets that have been produced by decentralized blockchain games. A district0x and Finality Labs collaboration.

Purpose:

To coordinate those that are most invested in the games they play and allow them to decide how it should be built and maintained. To allow the decentralized governance around the markets based off of decentralized game economies.

Description:

Finality Labs is working on building a gaming district centered around the development of open gaming communities with governance and assets running on distributed ledgers. The gaming district will coordinate games that are themselves DAOs, districts, or sub-districts that give dedicated gamers the ability to decide how various aspects of a specific game's generation and maintenance take place. Projects may be easily forked and stake holders in game proposals may pull funding or support different visions of how a game should be built and maintained over time.

Layer 2 Scalability Research and Development

Gaming and large scale governance on the blockchain won't work without immediate solutions to how these system will be ran in a cost effective and decentralized way. A core component of Finality Labs is the research and development done into scaling Ethereum and other blockchain ledgers. Finality Labs is collaborating with SpankChain on their generalized-state-channels implementation to facilitate cheap channel instantiation, state transfers, and channel upgrade paths for both the SpankChain camsite and a turn-style fighting system we are developing, while an RPG in the works will explore an application specific plasma chain.

Games

Hero Fighter (Turn-based State-channel game)

Finality Labs is currently putting the latest in state-channels technology into a novel turn-style fighting system. This system will be composed of rare collectable heroes that are generated and discovered in a mining process. These heroes may battle for wagers, ownership, or to the death. A market place developed around these will be ran in the gaming district.

RPG

State-channels are good for state where consensus can be unanimously signed off on by the participants of the battle. However it might be nice to allow something like a level up system from the heroes battles. If we decide to allow level-ups or persit any state between battles, then the stats in a channel are no longer meaningful to only the participants of the channel since the state changes impact a larger set of state. This would require a mechanism to enforce rules on the battle games such that no advantage can be gained by introducing state from the battle back into the arena. We are actively researching RPG style games that may sit on a Plasma chain that enforces rules that keep players honest. More to come on this soon. Here another opportunity arrises to govern a group of transaction miners and confirmers to maintain the off-chain plasma chain.

(Project CODENAME)

In collaboration with Decentraland, we will jointly build on the metaverse by respecting land units already built in decentraland. This allows for a really interesting collaboration idea we have with DCL and our RPG games we are working on. More on this to be announced later!

In collaboration with district0x, The gaming district will respect a 1:1 voting by allowing both DNT and FNT to be staked to its contract.

In terms of proposals for tokens owning other tokens and interoperability, where is the best place for me to keep up on this conversation?

This really interests me, especially as it pertains to funding bounties and payment splitting. I want to eventually fund bounties with my music by creating this type of structure but don't know where to begin.

Also, did you say you had a discord channel created that people can join?

Here is a list of ERCs that I know of that are related in some way to Ethereum state owning other state. This seems to be a long discussion with no clear protocol yet, but an active area of our research:

I am so far in favor of a standard for extending erc721 similar to how 677 extends erc20, if possible. I think having multiple children proves to be the challenge.

Also, did you say you had a discord channel created that people can join?

Yes, thank you! All of our community links including discord can be found at our website Finality Labs

Hey Nathan! Just a reminder. We just launched the District Registry.

If you are still working on this project, be sure to submit it to the registry if you want to see it built as one of the next districts.

We will be deprecating the old voting app and Github proposal system now that the registry is live.

If you aren't working on this be sure to stake your DNT into the districts you want to see remain in the Registry. https://registry.district0x.io/

Your staked tokens act as an 'Upvote' within the registry. Similar to any TCR, you will also receive a portion of the challenge rewards if anyone ever challenges the district. So be sure to migrate any tokens you used in the old voting app.

I will be streaming today now that the registry looks stable and people are beginning to stake DNT. We will dive in, answer all your questions and help get you started. Hope to see you later today!

Hey @nginnever

I'm not sure if you're aware but we recently launched a new bounty to migrate your proposals to the actual District Registry: https://registry.district0x.io/

We're replacing the old voting app with the registry. Let me know if you need help but I would love to see you migrate this over so you can claim your DNT.

It does take a 10,000 DNT submit to submit your proposal but this gives you an extra 2000 you can stake in the registry beyond the deposit amount.

Hit me up on Telegram or Discord if you need help or have questions.

PS, please excuse the canned response. I am encouraging everyone here to start migrating so they can claim their 12000 DNT.
