Name

Decentraland District

Purpose

Decentraland is an open source initiative to build a traversable virtual reality world. Within Decentraland, habitants can claim land as their own and build anything they wish upon it, from 3D artwork to fully immersive applications such as a VR poker room, for other inhabitants of the world to discover and enjoy.

As in the real world, land in Decentraland is scarce, non-fungible, and transferable; making it a logical asset for trade. Decentraland makes use of the Ethereum blockchain and a native token, the MANA, to implement a process for establishing claims over parcels of land within the world.

The nature of adjacency of land will lead to particular parcels becoming more desirable than others as a byproduct of their surroundings. A parcel which hosts a heavily trafficked installation will naturally enhance the discoverability of content hosted by neighboring landowners, leading to an appreciation in the inherent value of bordering plots.

The Decentraland District will establish a secondary market for land ownership and rentals within the Decentraland virtual world, establishing a focal point for the exchange of parcels and providing a means of price discovery and liquidity for LAND owners.

Description

The district will allow for owners of LAND to list their parcels for sale or rent, offering both auctions and fixed rate pricing options. Listings should contain the parcel's Cartesian coordinates, screenshots of its contents, and any other pertinent identifying information.

LAND for early adopters

We have reserved 700,000 MANA tokens (equivalent to 700 LAND tiles if converted to land) to be distributed to members of our Slack community following the completion of our planned contribution period in August.

Members of the Decentraland team will subjectively reward clear, well thought out proposals for Decentraland content (cinemas, games, museums, art galleries, markets, etc.), actual content creation and tech contributions, feedback on the overall project (white paper, economics, city planning, tech), thoughtful discussion, and other contributions made to the Decentraland project.

Be part of the conversation and claim your LAND in our Slack

See you in the metaverse!

This is a really interesting use-case for a district0x marketplace! The idea of commoditizing otherwise abundant resources in digital space to create interesting economic incentives is really powerful.

I mentioned this on both the district0x slack and on the decentraland slack, I think that the idea of tokenizing or commoditizing transportation is a critical component maximizing immersion effect of commoditized land adjacency.

If everyone is able to easily teleport from one location to another (generally possible with VR), then there is a relatively little benefit to land adjacency. People will gather in the most interesting places, and won't necessarily spill over into other areas just because they are nearby (since everything is only a few seconds away anyways.)

I think the idea of a persistent stateful virtual world that everyone shares is really intriguing, but to make it work the economics of transportation need to be thought about in direct relationship to the commoditization of space.

Is it more expensive to instantly teleport somewhere versus walking? Are there transit mechanism between walking and teleporting that connect various digital location, for example, trains, boats, aircraft, spaceships?

These transportation options should balance the virtue of using VR in order to easily explore a wide variety of locals that would not be possible in the real world, while still creating an immersive experience where there are economic tradeoffs between trying something nearby versus teleporting somewhere else.

By making fast-travel more expensive than slow travel, or certain areas only accessible through slower forms of travel, you create a premium journey experience. You could have remote but exclusive areas, and also create an incentive for cities and cultural centers to build around a single location. In relation to the district0x/decentraland realestate market it makes a more significant marketplace where locations can be valued relative to their accessibility as opposed to just their immediate adjacency.

There could also be certain types of locations that are disconnected from the grid and accessible from many different locations. For example a meeting room, or school, where people who are located in vastly different areas could easily meet and coordinate.

EDIT: I created an issue on the Decentraland Github related to this concept if anyone wants to check it out.

alanajoy commented 7 years ago

This concept makes me think of Second Life, which I always felt was so far ahead of its time in many ways. So many ideas after reading this!

xibot commented 7 years ago

Love Decentraland! Feeling like home! The place where we come from! Outstanding project! Getting some ETH for the upcoming tokensale to buy some MANA/LAND! :)

SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

Sadly this project has been a total failure overall to the community and decided to go basically private and sell majority of land to China group traders. This should be down-voted.

rongomaib commented 7 years ago

Majority of land to China

How did you calculate that?

@imdying 99% of the "group buyers" where from China and the partnerships Decentraland did was with China platforms :)

SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

It looks to you that token.im and other participants like this where from other then China?

rongomaib commented 7 years ago

I did an analysis.

You're almost right... perhaps we should organise a boycott... tie their funds up for ages... they'd hate that as they're hoping for a quick flip

@arimeilich You have tricked a lot of general crowd over the chinese investors that could very easy could have done the same. Enter on website, get the amount in, check the gas, press send. What your website was banned for China?

Unless you want them to be a priority and only them to own the majority, you make it in a way to do that, right? And you've done it.

Here we launch for 30 seconds cause we already sold on other platforms non-public. Basically you guys sold a lot of coins under-the-counter :) until the last moment nobody knew about all those partnerships with that many China platforms . And you KNOW IT. What @imdying shows its a very raw analyze as the whale counting will be hard to be accurate. I can and I did that multiple times as in the case of po.et bought from multiple places in order to get since it was failing everywhere to buy from.

So yeah, you screwed a lot of people over :) and I will make sure a lot of people know that about you and your lil project. :) Nobody will touch it with a 2 meter foot-pool, when they see that its an empty land.

rongomaib commented 7 years ago

@SpiryMedia No one owes you anything.

I wouldn't be too worried about the chinese owning anything. People aren't going to pay megabucks for VR realestate until maybe 5 years down the track and that'll be after some serious investment into that space. The chinese investors are probably in for a quick flip and won't be around in 6 months.

SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

@imdying Correct :) Sad too see a project with possible potential killed by greed and stupidity. The chinese investors will be gone the project drained of its cap and empty of users .... it will be faded in history because of greed.

xibot commented 7 years ago

@SpiryMedia Do you wanted to buy more than $1000 worth in MANA? Or what do you want? Trolling around? Whats your purpose? Decentraland will live long wether you like it or not.

Better build something positive than trolling around without any good purpose.

Get out of the dark side of the crypto force and come in into the enlightened side of the crypto force. Give good vibes instead of throwing sh*t without any real bright mean.

We, the community, are able to understand any issue surround the FOMO of the token sale and support Decentraland's endeavour to put MANA(LAND) in hand of common individual people & not just whales.

Just if you are a whale & would wanted to be one those chinese that bought a bunch of MANA your trolling could have some sense, but either way you will be trolling yourself.

We are trying to build a new world & space together in consensus as a crypto community/family & we are stronger together.

Get Onboard & feel light of the crypto force around you!

Long live Decentraland!

To the Moon & Beyond!

:)

SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

@xibot can't dream of Decentraland when is centralized in the hands of few:) basic logic. I won't argue anymore, the death of the project will come to itself due to poor decision making.

I am in crypto since Mt.Gox I know how things go. And how this ICO was handled, and how I stayed awake at 3 AM my time EUROPE to find out that it was worthless cause it was already bought and my transaction was waiting on confirmation while whales sending 500k$ worth of ethereum set gas to 600k :) But yeah sure. I don't own a HTC Vive , I do not like VR and I wanted to be a whale not to buy actual a small amount (10 ETH) worth of mana :) . Anyway good luck with your new Chinese community .

xibot commented 7 years ago

@SpiryMedia I love Chinese people! :)

SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

Still people shouldn't vote their DNT for this project at all. It is a rigged project with greedy people and a lot of COI out there. :)

seekr commented 7 years ago

I'm looking forward to build in VR and share my creations with people who are wandering around my neighbour tiles.

0xlemi commented 7 years ago

I have dreamed of this for a long time. but @SpiryMedia remarks are correct, the leaderships greed and stupidity are really going to hurt this project.

It doesn't mean is not going to be successful, but is sad.

eordano commented 7 years ago

Hi all, @eordano from Decentraland here. Just wanted to clarify some of the comments raised here.

  1. When we first started raising, not many projects have solved the uncapped-per-individual contribution problem. This distribution issue will go away with the whitelist contributions we have planned for next week.
  2. A low gini coefficient does not mean "decentralized". You can build on your land regardless of the percentage one single actor or group has, the MANA token is not a voting or percentage-based token. You're free to join the whitelist and get some mana (email us at slack@decentraland.org for an invitation to our slack and the whitelist)
  3. See our blogpost for a complete analysis: https://blog.decentraland.org/mana-token-launch-recap-eed3a3ce212
SPIRY-RO commented 7 years ago

@eordano I was banned on your slack :) I tried to access the whtelist via your website but didn't worked. So far so good right? :) Yes totally unhappy of how many real supporters got screwed over by your distribution model over-the-counter pre-sales and other stuff ...that you knew it would make it reach the CAP. I am also selling all my DNT if it gets supported in any way Decentraland on Distr0x. It will be sad. The only redemption it would be to really make a simple whitelist process public for everyone start from scratch.

MCDForm commented 7 years ago

My district sort of goes hand in hand with yours. It provides a way for users to obtain a Decentraland real estate loan. https://github.com/district0x/district-proposals/issues/193

always2late commented 7 years ago

who even are you @SpiryMedia? You act like announcing that you'll sell off all of your stock is going to hurt anybody but yourself (I'm actually serious here... Who are you?).

Bradymck commented 4 years ago

Hey Ari, we just launched the District Registry. 😎

When you get a chance, be sure to submit Decentraland to the registry.

We will be deprecating the old voting app and Github proposal system now that the registry is live.

https://registry.district0x.io/

I will be streaming today now that the registry looks stable and people are beginning to stake DNT.
