This PR will remove some undocumented formatting features. These features should be in application code instead.

Coverage increased (+2.6%) to 52.435% when pulling e083b019c371e11de898493736a182bfff3f5daf on refactor/remove-undocumented-formatting into 74414ac66f109c2614d6604769bbe0df2991d9eb on master.
