Update L-BFGS #91

The current L-BFGS implementation has been based on a very early FORTRAN 
implementation by Jorge Nocedal. The original code has evolved a lot and is 
available in MIT and BSD licensed libraries. It would be nice to port the 
latest versions of those codes into the framework, aiming to solve some of the 
numerical difficulties not currently handled in the current version.

The L-BFGS and optimization modules have been updated and a major refactoring 
will be available in the next release.
