I installed the prereqs and the emulator itself (1.7.3.7353) on 64-bit Windows
7. EmuHawk.exe crashes on startup with the following error:

An older version (1.4.0) worked fine but mysteriously crashed when I ran it
from the command line, which is what prompted me to install the new one.

Can you try this:
Delete the following folders:
dll
gamedb
logs

Delete the following files:
BizHawk.Client.DBMan.exe
DiscoHawk.exe
EmuHawk.exe
zip.exe
defctrl.json

Then re-extract 1.7.3 and see if it still crashes. If it does, let me know how
you loading it from the command line.

also try disabling DEP and see if that helps

I'm having a similar issue on 64-bit Vista. 1.6.1 still works fine, but 1.7.0
and afterward all crash, even on a fresh extraction.

Try this on any bizhawk newer than 1.9.1, when such a version is released. Some
opengl-related crash-prevention have been installed.

Considering this resolved. If it is not, then please make a new bug report.
