Can we do auto, and if that fails fall back to a configurable default, or a default fallback of English?
Maybe! let us get to this if this is an issue in production, happened to me twice or thrice then the bot had to translate German to German (lol) because of this: https://github.com/divyenduz/LingoParrot/issues/6
Now we are in a stronger position to implement the fallback as "comprehension" capabilities are added with this feature: https://github.com/divyenduz/LingoParrot/pull/9
This commit makes source specific. Let us see how LingoParrot and its users behave after this.
We will start with auto/if we know from the user. tl;dr the multi language support feature (https://github.com/divyenduz/LingoParrot/issues/5) supersedes this one. Closing.
Currently, the language source is set to "auto", with the AWS translate API, this allows "auto" source language detection and translation to the target language (German for now).
The problem with this is that, if the source is not specified. The translation sometimes fails at "source confidence" i.e. whether AWS Translate was reliably able to identify the source language.
Based on more testing and user feedback. We might want to make "source" language specific.
