Inactivity is measured in seconds #276

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Growl prefs, click on General tab
2. ...
3. Profit!

What is the expected output?
I expect to be able to set my period of inactivity in a more useful unit such
as minutes.

What do you see instead?
The period is measured in seconds. I do not wish to have to do math. Math is
hard. There exists no scenario in which I wish to have the roll-up appear in a
period of time less than a minute. Especially in its current obtrusive form. I
would much prefer to set something more reasonable, like 10 minutes.

For reference, see: every screen saver ever.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. There
will be misspelled one star reviews in all caps. Please, do it for the children.

I will consider it in exchange for the souls of the children. Do you agree to
those terms?

The souls, they are yours.

But not in 1.3. This requires a localization change and feedback from more than
one person. I'd agree we could have a drop down that's more like this

1 minute
5 minutes
10 minutes
---------
Custom...

Or something along those lines. However, if we're going to change this field we
should wait for any further feedback from others and make it work well for the
other localizations. Since we're in a string freeze for 1.3, I'm sending this
over to 1.3.1. It may need to wait for 1.4, but it's worth revisiting there
once we have more feedback from the user base.

I like the idea though.

We can look into this for 1.3.2.

Growl 2.0 introduces new management for idle detection, including a time box
combined with a pop up with seconds/minutes/hours. Can enter fractional values
as well for the value.

Growl 2 is released, marking these as fixed.
