It works fine in Lincle so I'm guessing this is an issue in the code for Chinese tricoro.
For reference, here is a lineout recording of a legitimate cabinet showing the videos playing properly on both the mode select and song select screens.
Steps to reproduce
Start the game
Start a new credit
Notice the black background on the mode select screen
Select a mode
Notice the black background on the song select screen
