Good start.
To be clear, we're not actually talking about splitting the screen in splitscreen, are we?
I envision the core competitive mode to feature teams of 3-5 players each controlling squads of 2-4 units (different players could also control different numbers of units.) 2v2 and 1v1 will be fun and easy to include. On larger devices (probably not phones,) I could imagine teams of many players competing on large boards (20x20 boards, 16 units/team -- the sky is the limit here.) The two-headed giant concept could feature many players "voting" on moves for each unit, allowing us to include more players even in games that occur on small screens (phones.)
I have a feeling that the pinnacle of competitive Q-Po will be 3v3, with 3 units per player. We'll see.
I'm not sure how I feel about the 5-loss rule. It might serve to keep players from getting too frustrated, but it could also be seen as kicking them when they're down.
I feel like the main prize for competitive play should be ranking, rather than Q-Packs.
I like the longest-win-streak idea.
Also not sure about the idea of paying to get into the Arena. Not saying no, but let's mull it over a bit.
Overall, solid brainstorming.
Obviously it wouldn't be splitscreen. That's just what i know it as lol.
As far as the loss rule, Hearthstone Arena (just basing it off of a working idea here) uses a 3 loss rule. If you lose 3 times you have to rebuy to play in arena again with your wins starting over. Hence why I said we should give some kind of reward for getting a good amount of wins in Arena (not specifically competitive mode).
I would like to see how the larger gameplay will work out, it may bring forward new ideas.
3 losses in a row, or three losses total since the last buy-in?
Can you talk a little bit more about the relationship between Arena play, Ranked play, and Social play?
3 Losses total since the last buy in.
Just a mock of game modes after our meeting today. Obviously we would run this in stages. Stage 1 would obviously be 1v1 and local multiplayer, adding the others as they are finished and tested.
