The text is ambiguous about what a "display hint" actually is, though it suggests that a MIME type might be the right thing to use. It's been a quarter century since this document was originally written. Has anyone used anything other than a MIME type? Is it a MIME-type by convention, or is it more formalized than that?
Even if the answer is "it can really be anything", it's worth explaining when and where one might expect it to be a MIME type.
I also note that several of the example display hints are not MIME types, even though some look similar (e.g. [charset=unicode-1-1]).
