This is a historical document. That doesn't mean that we want people to use it in new technologies necessarily.

It would be good if there were an up-front section that makes clear what a modern system probably wants to use instead. For example, JSON, CBOR, XML, YAML, etc. are all capable of expressing roughly similar ideas as S-expressions.
