GWT Designer will not open - HasSourcePosition cannot be found #224

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Eclipse 4.3 20130614-0229 on Ubuntu 13.04 with Oracle JDK 1.7
2. Install GPE from http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/4.2
3. Create a new GWT web application project.
4. In xxx.client/ right click on your entry point class and Open With->GWT
Designer.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output is GWT Designer opening and being usable.

Actual output is the following:
org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException: Plug-in "org.eclipse.wb.core.ui" was
unable to instantiate class
"org.eclipse.wb.internal.core.editor.multi.DesignerEditor".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Eclipse 4.3 20130614-0229
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b15)
Ubuntu 13.04 x64 - 3.8.0-26-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 17 21:43:33 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
GPE and other versions in attached screenshot.

Please provide any additional information below.
All other parts of GWT and GPE seem to be working fine. I can use DevMode,
Compile, etc. I am not seeing the issues like hanging and crashing that are
reported in relation to the libwebkit bugs.

I've searched in the GWT, GWT Designer, and GPE issues databases and I could
not find this same issue reported. I also searched the Eclipse WindowBuilder
forums.

I uninstalled the GPE and re-installed again and saw the same behavior.

Installing WindowBuilder Core and WindowBuilder XML Core from
http://download.eclipse.org/windowbuilder/WB/release/R201306261200/4.3/ allowed
the GWT Designer window to actually open. But in that configuration, when I
open the design view it crashes Eclipse after running at 100% CPU for about 10
minutes.

The same problem in Windows XP, Eclipse 4.3, JDK 1.7 (and JDK 1.6) and
https://developers.google.com/eclipse/docs/install-eclipse-4.3.

I too can confirm this on Windows 7 (64-bit), Eclipse 4.3 and JDK 1.7 when
opening Design tab on a newly created UiBinder item.
However, following what was suggested in #1 comment GWT Designer did open.

The problem is that we have an outdated version of WindowBuilder that's part of
GPE. We're going to update GPE and WindowBuilder this week.

@Mark: Are the latest GWTD and WindowBuilder bits staged?

I also observed this defect on Kepler today. After I updated the WindowsBuilder
Core and WindowsBuilder XML сomponets to last available version (up to
1.6.0.r4..) error does not occur any more. The GwtDesigner works. Just check
Eclipse for Updates. Thanks to developers who fixed this problem.
