Windows compatibility bug fix #42

issue #3, #41 related bug fix.

There's absolutely no use for a method that only returns true. If we do merge this, we can remove the method and all of it's calls.

You're right. I'm not familiar with Ruby, so I want to change as small as I can do. Anyway, I think that Windows platform support is good to many people.
