Gsimplecal is supposed to be just a minimal “desktop” calendar you use to quickly peek what weekday is 25th of December, or what date is next Monday. If you want something more, like the events functionality, which holidays basically are, I guess you better level things up and use something like Orage.
Maybe if this is a popular request I will consider it, but I just think that majority of users are sticking to gsimplecal because of its minimalism.
Well, I agree with you I love minimalism and I want to keep things basic and that they do what they must do. For that reason the main calendar I use is gsimplecal. And I plan things on looking at it. And sometimes I forget in the middle of a week there is a holiday. Anyway thanks for answering.
Have only just started using gsimplecal and enjoying the simplicity; I'd love the possibility of highlighting certain days, though. Maybe just a config option like highlight_file=~/.config/gsimplecal/dates which could be a simple text file? If people want to keep it sync'd with another calendar ie: GCal that can be done by a cron task, or they can just stick their birthday in and ignore it?
Orage seems to be abandonware now. Gsimplecal already looks like some sort of quick calendar, usually opened from clock, but allowing to run full-scale event managemer app (calcurse, gnome-calendar, maya-calendar). Usually they highlight days, which have any events, so that you could know, what to open in full-scale app.
I already tested with pantheon-calendar, which seems enough light to take place in tint2-centered desktop. This thing has cli option to focus date, good to use from gsimplecal.
Little inconvenience - this usually may need reverse integration, passing changes from app back to quick calendar. May be gsimplecal could accept simple dates list for what to highlight - this is for first start. During runtime - same items could be read from pipe, socket, etc - prefixed with +/- to patch existing list.
Agree with this. It would be awesome if we had this feature to list dates to highlight in gsimplecal
Hello, I use gsimplecal on my tint bar and it is simple, and useful as it should be. So thank you very much for your work and effort. What I miss it is the possibility of marking the holidays along the year. It would it be great if there was an online service to query but I could also live with a file where I put the days and gsimplecal read and marks the days. Do you think it would be possible?
Thanks
