Monosynth DAW MIDI triggering

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempting to play notes through my DAW MIDI controller and my MIDI keyboard.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Sound. It recognizes the MIDI data, but apparently does not know what to do 
with it until instruments are sequenced to channels. It's as though the MIDI is 
just retriggering the notes to the MIDI note value.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
MS-DOS 7.10 + Windows 3.11, it seems more stable in Windows 3.11.

Please provide any additional information below.
So in order to get the note to play back I have to sequence the instrument to a 
channel in AT2, then play the pattern and then the notes from MIDI will trigger 
the sound.
I'm thinking if MIDI channels could be assigned to instruments in the 
instrument editor window and/or song information window to specific channels it 
will function independently of the tracker sequencer. It'd also probably be 
really easy to add a poly mode after that.
