ok, offending line is in PhEDExDatasvcInfo.py: self.stage_out_faq='https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/SWGuideCrabHowTo#Stageout_and_publication'
changed to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMSPublic/SWGuideCrabFaq#Stageout_and_publication

I got this error message by using storage_element, storage_path but not user_remote_dir. The error is correct, but the twiki page it refers to is deprecated. Please update the URL.

crab: Error: task /lustre/cmswork/lacaprar/Ana/CMSSW_5_3_3/src/UserCode/MSSMHbbSL/Pattupler/test/tmp/DYJets1v1/ not correctly created. Please remove it. You are asking to stage out without using CMS Storage Name convention. In this case you must specify both user_remote_dir and storage_path in the crab.cfg section [USER].
