I've installed WINE and I understand it comes with DirectX 9.0c which should be adequate to run games through Windows Steam like Company of Heroes (COH), but upon loading the game and attempting to initiate a game round it crashes halfway through loading. Maybe this isn't something related as an "issue" to Crouton but I'm not sure where else to post this type of question...

Check the Wine appdb entry and make sure you're running the latest version of wine (you'll have to add a PPA, instructions for which you can find on the winehq page.
