Repeated PFN_List_corrupt blue screen error in Windows Vista on PB start up (sometimes pbfilter.sys bluescreen) #360

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. All I can say is that my Vista ultimate with service pack 1 running on an
AMD Athlon 64 with 4gb of ram crashes when peerblock is started without fail.
Sometimes I get a pbfilter.sys blue screen as well. I have tried uninstalling
and reinstalling. Suspect it might be that I need service pack 2, hwoever the
error is so severe I'd have though it should not be happening regardless of
service back.
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
graphics scrambled and bluescreen error came up.

What version of PeerBlock are you using? On what operating system? 32- or
64-bit?

Beta version r484

Please provide any additional information below. Make sure to attach
peerblock.log and/or any screenshots that would help explain your problem.

if I get the error again after installing service back 2, I will come back.

Exactly same error with stable version too!

Logfile attached

I hope someone can work out what is going on. Is there a faulty driver or
something?

NB This has happened a week after a clean install of vista ultimate and the
only thing that I have done differently on this set up from my previous is that
I briefly ran netbalancer, initially that seemed to work fine with PB, when I
started getting these errors I uninstalled netbalancer but the errors were
unaffected. I mention it because I guess they may work in the same space.

Ok, I finally got it working again when I realised I had verifier running. Not
sure if I turned this on after I started getting these errors or before, but
turning it off seems to at least let peerblock load.

I also see the same bluescreen on Windows XP with verifier running. That
indicates a problem with the pbfilter.sys driver. Specifically a "STOP 0xC9
(0x7,..." means "The driver called IoCompleteRequest while its cancel routine
was still set." That could explain other crashes seen with the driver.

This is easy to reproduce. Start | Run | "verifier". Select Create Standard
Settings, choose from list, enable pbfilter.sys, and reboot.
