docker-desktop not compatible with docker.io which is a dep of nvidia-docker2 #171

Open VenRoot opened 8 months ago

Description

So I'm using Docker Desktop on my Pop OS machine. Lately I wanna get into AI with docker. But upon trying to install nvidia-docker2, I get the error, that it depends on docker.io or docker-ce which are not installable.

Trying to install either of them tries to remove the docker-desktop package.

So I can't use nvidia-docker2 with docker desktop. Is that wanted behaviour?

Reproduce

  1. Have docker desktop installed
  2. sudo apt install docker-nvidia2

Expected behavior

docker-nvidia2 should also EITHER depend on docker-desktop and install correctly

there are system76 apt packages of cuda, idc if its not the recommended way. I'm keeping docker-desktop even if i have to use an older version of cuda (11.1, or 11.2).

if you care here is the commands to install it (replace 'version' with the version you want to install, only 11.1 or 11.2 are available):

sudo apt install system76-cuda
sudo apt install system76-cuda-<version>

if a better way becomes available then uninstall is just an apt purge away
