Absolutely agree! My eyes are bleeding every time I launch docker app.

I can't believe this issue is not taken into consideration while the new icon is not respecting even the size of other similar icons. You can see in the next image how the Docker icon has leftover parts
The workaround is to download the old icon, open the Applications folder, select the Docker.app and hit ⌘-i to bring up the info panel and drag the old icon onto the existing one in the top-left corner.
I made a repo that has the old icon: https://github.com/amancevice/the-good-docker-icon
I know I can do that with every single thing in macOS, but that's not the solution, the old icon was beautiful enough for macOS, they can just revert the commit and it's done!
My guess is that the reason they changed it in the first place was as simple as “we no longer want to pay the artist who made it” and is therefore not so easy to revert. I‘m not holding my breath on this one

For me, this is the most important aspect that Docker is not considering with their new icon. Different OSs establish guidelines to preserve the aesthetic of their UI, of course, devs are allowed to do what they want since it is not enforced. It's certainly distracting having this lack of design context.
I very much would love if the icon is, at the very least, resized.

Are there any plans to change the icon that is compatible with big sur?
Based in the current one, I don't want to even think about the look of that icon...
I believe the Docker icons from macOS Replacement Icons look good. They don't have the cartoony whale but respect sizing, it's properly aligned. It's an improvement over the current one. I don't remember seeing more concepts for Docker on Big Sur lately.
That's a cool website, @ajotaos — I was inspired this morning to submit one using the old Docker icon called "Docker Alt 2"
This is very necessary in my Mac, congrats @amancevice, it looks great. Crossed fingers that the Docker team checks this thread 🤞
Any plans to get the icon the Big Sur treatment?
This is obviously not a priority task for developers of Docker and that's totally understandable. I can recommend using the custom icon from https://macosicons.com/.
Give us the squircle! 🙃

You can start by not screwing up the things so you don't need to fix them. Old logo was fine, current one is not following any Apple design guideline at all. So who was the genius that proposed its change?
I love the design of the icon! it looks great imo but please match the Big Sur guidelines. Docker Desktop looks out of place on my dock :(

Docker is a professional tool and the icon deserves first-class support from its developers. Users shouldn't have to go digging around the internet for a sensible icon so that Docker can pose as a good UX citizen.
The authors abandoned the details of the containers and the whale, focusing on the silhouettes. This is done to indicate the application’s seriousness. According to Docker itself.
This is sad of course as the older docker icon looked awesome compared to the new one but changes had to be made, not to mention how much money printing plates would be. You have to have one plate for every color layer and then another for fine details and a depth map.
Hi all! Thanks for all the love for the old icon. We don't have any plans to redesign the icon right now, so I'm going to close this, but will point people to this thread the next time a redesign is under consideration.

How someone can kill this cute and drugged whale
and to change it for this icon from flaticon.com! I had to remove the icon from the Dock because it was so awful I couldn't believe it.
