Docker Desktop update prompts take focus away from full screen applications #5950

Expected behavior

It should not take focus away from full screen applications

Actual behavior

It takes focus away from the full screen applications

Is it reproducible?

Yes

Is the problem new?

I don't know, probably not new.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Watch a movie in Chrome full screen
  2. Wait for Docker Desktop update window to pop up and for the app to switch to Docker Desktop
  3. Movie is now playing in background, and now I am very sad

This should be a toast notification using the macOS notification centre.

Popping up over content like this, with the only way to disable it behind a paywall, is border line adware-like behaviour.

Issues go stale after 90 days of inactivity. Mark the issue as fresh with /remove-lifecycle stale comment. Stale issues will be closed after an additional 30 days of inactivity.

Prevent issues from auto-closing with an /lifecycle frozen comment.

It steals focus regardless of whether or not the foreground app is fullscreen or not and is quite obstructive. Agree with @oznu, but the issue isn't (necessarily) with the paywall – I'm a pro subscriber and it still interferes with whatever I'm typing at the moment it pops up the notification.

This issue seems to be back. The issue is not automatically checking for updates, it's the fact that it's stealing focus and putting a pop-up in the middle of my screen and random times.

So, I need to pay for having Docker Desktop functions as a proper application, or am I missing something?

It's almost the only application that I know of that doesn't switch to the desktop when opening its window. Closing Docker Desktop, switch to the desktop, re-open Docker Desktop is a bit tedious.
