This is also present in v4.34.2, with the recent CVE https://docs.docker.com/security/security-announcements/#docker-desktop-4342-security-update-cve-2024-8695-and-cve-2024-8696 pushing people to upgrade this could affect a lot of people with no option to roll back...

I am also experiencing this same issue, but only on v 4.34.2 (downgrading to v 4.34.1 seemed to get things working again):
Docker version: Docker version 27.2.0, build 3ab4256
Docker Desktop version: Docker Desktop 4.34.2 (167172) is currently the newest version available.
Opening wsl and trying to run any docker related commands results in this error even though I have docker desktop running:
Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?
Same here, have to stay downgraded until this is resolved, and unfortunately on windows the only way to downgrade it seems is to uninstall docker which nukes all existing containers, so definitely gets in the way of productivity at work.
Just checking in on the status of resolving this regression? Thank you!
Hi there, for context re: prioritization of this issue, anyone using native Linux on Windows (this is what WSL2 is) will be unable to use the latest Docker until this is fixed. While I don't have accurate market share stats, here's a 2023 Stack Overflow article suggesting 15-17% market share (more than all other forms of Linux): https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2023/#section-most-popular-technologies-operating-system
I imagine there are many folks with this problem but only a notable subset are following/commenting on this task. Just wanted to share as you think about prioritizing fixing this regression.
Thank you for all your help and dedication!
Description
Since upgrade to 4.34.1 docker is not accessible from WSL2 terminal. The desktop app seems healthy and docker works from Windows Powershell
$ docker ps Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?
Reproduce

Expected behavior
No response
