Hi,

While docker desktop is hanging on startup, can you check if the docker-dekstop-data distro is alive ? (using wsl -l -v).

If it is not, can you

rnwolf commented 4 years ago

Ok Tried again. Diagnostic ID = 0627D9A5-F188-464C-9800-511273C03C1B/20200429161940

I ran the following commands:

wsl --shutdown wsl -d docker-desktop-data -e /wsl-keepalive

C:\Users\rnwol> docker pull rnwolf/jekyll

I ran the above from the Powershell terminal.

In the WSL2 (Ubuntu) terminal I get message saying that "command 'wsl' is not found, and can be installed with sudo apt install wsl"

simonferquel commented 4 years ago

The error with mounting filesystem error is interesting. If you can reproduce, can you run wsl -u root dmesg?

@benhillis I am pretty sure this error manifest as a the input/output error we see quite often in our bugsnag reports. Does this kernel trace give you some clues ?

simonferquel commented 4 years ago

@rnwolf in the mean time, if you don't have any important data in your docker volumes, can you try to stop docker desktop and run wsl --unregister docker-desktop-data and wsl --unregister docker-desktop ? It will redeploy a fresh docker-desktop-data distro (but you'll loose existing container images and volumes).

@benhillis additional info, the docker-desktop-data distro only has a single file in it initially (/wsl-keepalive which is a statically built executable that populates /mnt/wsl and keep the distro alive until it is killed)

rnwolf commented 4 years ago

I ran

wsl --unregister docker-desktop-data
wsl --unregister docker-desktop

Restarted my laptop, logged into docker hub, and we seem to be back in business. Thanks

allenabraham commented 4 years ago

Following @simonferquel , I proceeded halfway, keeping my images intact and managing to resuscitate the dead docker_desktop. Following is what I did:
