Still would like this :)
Bump. This would be a nice QoL change.

Bump. Still waiting for this.
ugh, I am so done w/ Docker. I'm investigating moving everything to podman
and CRI-O
. Are there recommended alternatives for a container registry, ideally free for open source projects? GitHub's container registry appears free for all public repos. Looks like Quay.io requires a $5/month account.
I moved to GitHub over a year ago. They don't have this issue. DigitalOcean has a container registry too. There's also Google's Cloud and AWS. Lots of options out there.
GitLab.com is another option.

Bump. Still waiting for this...
So am I. Just because the Docker folks don't do anything about it doesn't mean the problem "goes away".
I won't be changing my username anytime soon so the issue remains relevant for any images I would want to push to the Docker Hub. At present, and precisely because of this issue, that's exactly zero images and I push my images someplace where hyphenated usernames and organizations is not an issue.
Bump, still an issue.
As you can see, I have a hyphenated username on GitHub. Same thing on GitLab. I also use hyphenated organization names with both services. Not being able to use the same names on Docker Hub is confusing at best. It would be really nice if the user/organization naming rules for the various services you want to integrate with are the same.
