Expected behavior

As a check:

Hello from Docker! This message shows that your installation appears to be working correctly.

To generate this message, Docker took the following steps:

  1. The Docker client contacted the Docker daemon.
  2. The Docker daemon pulled the "hello-world" image from the Docker Hub. (windows-amd64)
  3. The Docker daemon created a new container from that image which runs the executable that produces the output you are currently reading.
  4. The Docker daemon streamed that output to the Docker client, which sent it to your terminal.

To try something more ambitious, you can run a Windows Server container with: PS C:> docker run -it microsoft/windowsservercore powershell

Share images, automate workflows, and more with a free Docker ID: https://cloud.docker.com/

* Working out of the box

### Actual behavior

**[hello-world](https://hub.docker.com/_/hello-world/)*9

(just a BLACK screen)

* when I click Start (again)..
* Some kind of error or diagnostic message flashes and it is then
* Occulted by the blackness.
   * IF you MUST black-out the page at least make it a bit transparent so I can tell you what it said

**[hello-world-nginx](https://hub.docker.com/r/kitematic/hello-world-nginx/)**

failed to register layer: re-exec error: exit status 1: output: ProcessBaseLayer C:\ProgramData\Docker\windowsfilter\611772198a73c434e8f0ca623036094c9ef56c6e09c8649735c09aeb47bf1d30: The system cannot find the path specified.

### Information

  - Diagnostic ID from "Diagnose & Feedback" in the menu.

OK this was very confusing since this is Kitematic issues
 I suggest you change this text to say: "Docker widget Diagnose & Feedback" (_please_)

  - a reproducible case if this is a bug, Dockerfiles FTW
  - page URL if this is a docs issue or the name of a man page

From the docker diagnose & feedback page:

**A diagnostic was uploaded with id: 56AAF1A8-0491-4F9F-8FF4-F87957E2AF5E/2018-02-21_10-54-25**

host distribution and version (Windows version, build number, etc)

*  Windows 10 64-bit
*  Docker version 17.12.0-ce-win47 (151139)
*  Engine:  17.12.0-ce
* Machine:  0.13.0
* Compose:  1.18.0
* Notary: 0.4.3
* Credential helpers: 0.6.0

### Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Open  kinematic
  2. Click on either image mentioned

I'm unable to reproduce - Is this only happening in Docker for Windows?

aplatypus commented 6 years ago

Still fails on the Windows command line. Seems OK on Linux.

SimonSDA commented 6 years ago

I had the same issue but sorted it by switching to using Linux containers by right-clicking the docker sys-tray icon.

Docker Desktop Community, v2.0.0.3 (31259) Still happening with Server Version 18.09.2, with a "Context Error" popup message when you click on the "Create" button. Note: I did log into Docker Hub before running Kitematic Still works from command line
