Can you please at least post logs and system info?
The game works fine for others with DXVK 1.2.1.
What logs do you need exactly? I will happily provide everything, if I know what :)
That was all explained in the issue template that you saw when filing the bug report. Posting the WoW_d3d11.log
and WoW_dxgi.log
(somewhere in your game's install directory) would be a start.
Just reinstalled the game through Lutris and it works fine for me with 1.2.1 :woman_shrugging:
Thanks for your response, I will provide the log files now, I can reproduce it. With DXVK 1.2.1 it freezes exactly 8 after loading screen and joining a city with large player amount. with DXVK 1.0.1 it runs fine. However, when I join a place with low player amount, it runs fine with DXVK 1.2.1 (just tested for 4 minutes). Here are the logs:

Nothing in there that would indicate any sort of issue. Can you post the full wine log (i.e. console output)?
Note that Nvidia notebook setups are kind of known to cause all sorts of issues; it might be worth testing the game on the Intel GPU and see if that works. Although usually these setups tend to not work at all rather than randomly freezing.
well, yes intel gpu runs "fine", but with 10 fps tho. I know, I wouldn't buy this hardware again but I am using it since 2016 or so and kind of stuck with it :) well thank you for your time. I can play with 1.0.1 quite well for now (60 fps) and will look at this as an hardware incompatiblity or so. no big deal.
Just going to tag this as an Nvidia (Optimus?) issue, but there's not much I can do here. You could test if D3D12 (using vkd3d) works better.
I will try at your suggestion at the weekend but I am quite happy with 1.0.1 and the current setup. 40-60 fps, no crashes, no lag spikes, it's fine enough :) I am totally happy that I can use vulkan in conjuction to bumblebee with primusVK. we'll see when the next patch (8.2) comes out or when classic is releases (7.x client?). Classic is going to use 1.x client, and not 7.x tho. Although (hopefully) it is a "newer" 1.x client than the one when game launched, cos that would probably not work with windows 10 at all...

Mhh strange. I watched a developer Interview where they showed/explained that they used the data and assets from 1.12 and converted them to the new format so that the current client (7.x at that time) and the Blizzard cloud infrastructure can work with that data. And according to some of their developers they had to "revert" some bugs/specialitites because the new engine handled lighning, animation and such differently. One example was that in classic the default lighting color defaulted to pure white, in the newer it defaults to magenta and because of this they had to manually fix those light sources afterwards.

Per the app db entry on the wine site, for wow 8.1, the wine 4.9 did not work for a large number of people, and appears to have nothing to do with either dxvk or even the wine wrapper vkd3d for dx12. I also self compile on my fedora 30, and wine 4.9 never would start wow, or run battle.net or twitch. All of those worked fine with 4.8, so i rolled back. When 4.10 came out the bugs fixed references WoW and other blizzard games having the 132 system crash issues, and the appropriate bug fix to correct was applied, so short answer, try wine 4.10.
Or if you use some custom TKG proton patches, the patch called "use_clock_monotonic" will break 4.10 aswell. There is a new version that i did not test yet with 4.10 https://github.com/Tk-Glitch/PKGBUILDS/commit/dd33d4d489d08724074afb1e0e57ccfde9e0897a but not entirely sure it's beneficial unless you use more hacks i guess.
i think i have the same problem on my RX 580. WoW doesn't launch properly and crashes under wine-staging 4.9 with dxvk 1.2.1. My solution was temporarly to revert to wine-staging 4.8

WoW is KNOWN to not work with wine-staging-4.9. This is resolved with wine-staging-4.10
I just wanted to let you know that the freezes, I described in the OP are coming from the primus_vk middleware I am using. They released a patch (1.1) a few days ago that addresses exactly that issue (game freeze when using DXVK >= 1.2). So, it seems, on my case it at least, it was primus_vk all along but no big problem anyway, 1.0.1 worked fine for the meantime :) And for myself, I had no issues with wine ge-protonified-nofshack-4.9
It works very well on wine-staging 4.12.1 and dxvk 1.3.1
I tried for hours to get WoW running with wine 4.9 and DXVK 1.2.1. The game launched but freezed after 5 seconds. After hours i changed the DXVK from 1.2.1 to 1.0.1 and now the game runs fine.
Is this something I should investigate more into (and provide log files to you) or should I just keep going with 1.0.1 and ignore the updates?
In addition I am using primus_vk to use vulkan "alongside" bumblebee.
