Airport Extreme card installation help - iMac 2011 with Atheros wifi. #214

Hi all.

I have an iMac 2011 (running Yosemite) and am trying to get the Continuity Activation Tool to work. I misread the directions and chart on this site, and purchased a GBU521 USB bluetooth dongle, but after running the CAT software, it didn't work.

It says i have an Atheros wifi chip, and will need an Airport Extreme card to get CAT running. This is where I'm a little stuck. Im not 1005 sure exactly what hardware i would need to purchase, and more importantly, how i would install it? From a quick search on Airport cards, it looks like its something that has to be installed internally inside the iMac?

Would anyone be able to help me out so i can get this up and running?

Hi, You should buy dongle based on Broadcom BCM20702 chip. I have GMYLE (http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Ultra-Mini-Broadcom-BCM20702-Wireless/dp/B010NISKFK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1443611876&sr=8-2&keywords=GMYLE+bluetooth) and it works fine under Yosemite. Your GBU521 should work also if manufacturer did not change chip from Broadcom to Atheros. Try to uninstall CAT. Use disk Utility to repair permissions. Reboot. Start CAT installation again. Insert dongle as soon as CAT ask you for it. Reboot. Repair permissions and sign out/in from iCloud on MAC and iOS devises.

P.S. Gmyle works. But it has a blue LED which is always flashing.
