Please include the following information.
OS Version: 10.12.6
Mac model: MacBookPro8,3
Dongle or replaced card?:Replaced Card
Used dongle/card: BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX
Your Issue:
I have a late 2011 17" Macbook Pro, I just had the motherboard replaced (by Apple) and they reported the installed bluetooth card (a BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX) had a bad cable - and they replaced the cable and the card with new ones (BCM94331PCIEBT4AX) which of course broke continuity support.
I purchased another BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX and installed it and the Mac wifi works fine, but the OS doesn't see any bluetooth. CAT reports Bluetooth = 0, and system information says: "No Information Found" under the bluetooth tab. There isn't a Bluetooth icon in the system preferences. I tried booting to my Snow Leopard partition (this mac is great) and it didn't recognize bluetooth either.
I bought a 2nd BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX and it gives the same error.
I put the original BCM94331PCIEBT4AX back in and bluetooth works great again.
I've deleted the com.apple.bluetooth.plist and reset the SMC but this did not cause the OS to recognize the bluetooth.
It appears the new motherboard is refusing to recognize the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX. Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks!
Steps done to try to fix the issue:
Tried using two different BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX cards but the OS didn't recognize either
Tried deleting the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist however bluetooth still not recognized by the OS.
Tried resetting the SMC - no effect
Tried resetting NVRAM - no effect
Apple hardware diagnostics shows no issues (but I don't know if it checks the bluetooth card).
Have you tried these steps? Yes
