A word may be popular but is it common or esoteric? reading the Wiktionary definition, popular wouldn't discriminate for specialist words.
Maybe this shows how popular biology, or biological examples in literature are.
I dare open a can of worms by inquiring about the popularity of the words in popular.txt, but...

This seems to be a common issue with most word lists, is they tend to incorporate a lot of graduate level science and medicine lingo. It's hard to know where to draw the line.
