Any version information currently is injected by the CircleCI pipeline when creating a new release. There's no version information within the source code.
However, Snap builds timetrace from source. Therefore, no version information is contained in the binary built via Snap.
We should make the current version available in snapcraft.yaml - maybe by setting an environment variable that will be used for setting the version inside the source code?
