Fill in the data catalogue spreadsheet #45

Open ricardogsilva opened 4 years ago

ricardogsilva commented 4 years ago

The spreadsheet in

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uiuey2w4IvCNtNK0rV2Z3e5IOk0TsbGrkQit9Cdic0o/edit#gid=0

contains a Catalog sheet which contains an initial list of most datasets that were identified during previous stages of the project.

We need to fill in the blanks in the spreadsheet in order to

  1. Get a description of the existing datasets and their respective custodians
  2. Track the progress of data upload, validation and publishing

This sheet shall contain the following columns - be sure to create any columns listed here that may not be in the spreadsheet yet:

Interact with the various project stakeholders in order to gather the information specified above.

Start with the datasets owned by the LSD and PPD departments, as these are the biggest stakeholders.

@ricardogsilva where can I download these layers? I am only seeing one on the DomiNode website. Thank you!

ricardogsilva commented 3 years ago

@justinelliotmeyers Thanks for your inquiry!

Most of the layers are not publicly available yet. I hope most of them will be made public sometime during this quarter, but I don't really have any authority on this matter.

Layers are owned by the respective Dominica Government departments and are subject to their internal data policies. While there is a push for supplying most data to the general public free of charge, I don't think there is an official policy on this yet. I suggest you get in contact with the Dominica Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project's (DVRP) Project Coordination Unit (PCU):

http://dvrp.gov.dm/

The DVRP PCU is responsible for the DomiNode project as a whole and should be able to answer any questions about it. It is also a good recipient for some citizen-pressure asking that DomiNode layers be made public :wink:

@justinelliotmeyers thanks for your interest!

Ricardo is right! anyway, I would like to know which layers specifically are you interested in?

This will help us to talk to the custodians and to the PCU and have a quicker response for you.

You can email me at luisa@piensa.co so we can talk more about it. :)

@l-fawcett I will email now - but in case it doesn't go through, I will post here as well. I'd like to map all cities, towns, and villages. I'd like to apply a population to them as well. These layers should help: lsd_census-parishes_v1.0.0 ppd_building-footprints-roseau_v1.0.0 ppd_district-boundaries_v1.0.0 ppd_estates_v1.0.0 ppd_household-buildings_v1.0.0 ppd_towns_v1.0.0 Communities - villages
