Write a document presenting the metadata profile in use by GeoNode #52

Write a succinct document that explains what is a metadata profile and the profile that is being used in DomiNode. Let's aim for about 20 pages max.

Include the following sections:

Introductory sections - keep them brief (half page, max 1.5 page for each section)

  1. What is metadata and why it matters - perhaps you may take inspiration from the FGDC geospatial metadata webpage and the educational resources shown there

  2. ISO19115 as the international standard for geospatial metadata and as the base for most modern metadata profiles

  3. What is a metadata profile - look at this repo containing a metadata profile for Geoscience Australia

Main sections - detail them as needed

Feel free to take inspiration from the GeoNode docs on metadata for these. If sensible, defer some explanation to the GeoNode manual too (but include at least a minimal description in the document).

  1. GeoNode as a metadata creating tool.

    • How to use GeoNode to create metadata
    • How different GeoNode users and groups interact with metadata (who is able to create/edit/view and how to control it)

  2. The GeoNode metadata profile and description of each element

  3. How the GeoNode metadata profile becomes the DomiNode metadata profile

  4. Possibilities for extending the metadata profile and other workflows

    • How to extend the default GeoNode metadata profile, if needed (is it even possible?)
    • GeoNode allows uploading pre-generated XML files
    • Perhaps a more capable metadata generator (for example GeoNetwork) might be used to generate metadata and then upload to GeoNode
